The Cincinnati Taijiquan Club was founded by Master I-Chih Wang, PhD. in 2004. Master Wang was born in China in 1930. He began his Taijiquan training in the early 1940’s. He came to the United States in 1958 and joined the faculty of the University of Cincinnati in 1966 as a Physics Professor. His teaching career at UC lasted 33 years. He returned to China many times where he received high level Taijiquan training. In 1999 he retired from UC and was named Professor Emeritus. Retirement allowed Master Wang to start teaching Yang style Taijiquan. He taught at UC Blue Ash, Blue Ash Rec Center, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, and in Ault Park. Teaching Yang style Taijiquan is how Master Wang repaid the community for all the good things he and his family have received. His teachings emphasize the health benefits of Taijiquan.
In 2015, at the age of 85, Master Wang retired from teaching Taijiquan. His last official act was to promote several of his senior students to instructor ranks.
Ray Witte (Left), Senior Master Instructor, started learning Taijiquan in 2002. He is also an 8th Dan Grand Master in Tae Kwon Do. For 8 years he was the Physical Fitness & Defensive Tactics Instructor for the Cincinnati Police Department. He teaches at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Monday nights at 7:00 PM. Ray can be reached at (513)745-9425.
Tim Coletta (Right), Senior Master Instructor, has over 40 years experience teaching Kempo, Jeet Kune Do, and Taijiquan. He teaches at the Blue Ash Rec Center. His classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 AM and 7:30 PM. Tim can be reached at (513)237-3579, or email@example.com.
Chia-Nien Yu (Charlie) Senior Master Instructor, came to US in Sept 1955, studied organic chemistry at U of Illinois and then U of Michigan. Worked for P&G as a medicinal chemist, retired in 1994 after 35 years. Moved to Cincinnati in July 1994 and learned Taijiquan from Prof Wang in 2000.
Charlie Yu is the 52nd great great grandson of a famous scholar, adviser and calligraphy teacher to the first Emperor of the Tang Dynasty (618AD) - we are honored that he translated into Chinese the sayings the Professor Wang mentions during his Tai Chi classes:
"Relax with a calm mind"
"Improve one's health and prolong one's life"
Charlie started teaching Taijiquan in 2003 at Mason Community Center as a volunteer. Charlie can be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
